Critical path tasks get checked daily and I protect the people on them from being pulled into other work, because a two day borrow on a critical task is a two day slip on the whole project. Everything else I leave alone until its float gets thin. The trap is that the critical path moves. On one migration a testing task with about eight days of float quietly burned all of it while everyone watched the build, and by the time anyone noticed, testing had become the critical path and nobody had been tracking it. So I re-run the path whenever a dependency or a duration changes, not just at planning time.
